The constellations of the Zodiac: an inexhaustibly rich theme that haunted my imagination for years. And even though I'm not, strictly speaking, a devotee of the ancient art of astrology, I always succumb with delight to the temptation to read my horoscope when it crosses my path.
After a long period of research through the history of zodiacal representations, it was the splendor of medieval astronomical clocks - like the majestic one at San Marco in Venice - that captured my heart. This singular representation, where the signs glitter in gold against a contrasting background like treasures suspended in the night, was the one I wanted to bring back to life on silk.
Each sign was drawn with immense love and infinite patience, because each sign is like a friend: this one is my lover's sign, that one my beloved sister's, this other one a precious friend's, and so on.
Creating the original drawing - nearly a meter by a meter - took more than four weeks. Four weeks of making the constellations dance, refining each curve, each star, so that the magic would happen.
